Colosseum & Vatican

Today was our first full day in Rome. It was a very busy day because it was also the last day that everybody but us (Mom, Dad, Meghan and I) had in Italy. We had a tour that picked us up at nine, and they came a little early because our tour guide was staying at the hotel that we were staying at.

The bus drove us to the Vatican. That was where the disciple Peter was buried. My favorite part of the Vatican was the paintings that Michelangelo painted in the cathedral place. My favorite painting out of all of the paintings was the one with Adam and Eve. It showed that they were beautiful and healthy, and then it showed them with the bad snake, eating the fruit that God told them not to eat. Then it showed them after they ate the fruit, ugly and looking sick, clutching at their bellies. The story of Adam and Eve is one of my favorites because I liked how they disobeyed Gods orders and got punished, and also because it's so near to the front, and I don't have to take time shuffling through all the pages to get to that story. I thought that it was painted so beautifully, almost as if it was real.

We went underground in the big cathedral (not the one that was painted by Michelangelo) also known as the basilica, and we saw Saint Peter's grave. It was really cool. We left the Vatican and went back on the bus and got dropped of at the hotel.

We had a lunch break, and then we would go back on the bus to go to the Colosseum. For lunch I had a ham and cheese sandwich, and it was really good. All the cousins went back to the hotel, and we played cards until the break ended.

We left the Colosseum and then our tour guide took us to a place that she said was a surprise. It was a locked door and she told us to look through the keyhole. It had a perfect view of Saint Peter's dome. It was very beautiful. We also went to the Forum and the Trevi Fountain. They were both awesome.

It was a fun day.
