Solstice Earthquake

We slept in and the girls slept in even later as Debby and I headed to the cafe for wifi.  Our apartment is great but no wifi while traveling is hard - especially when we are still working out the next destination.

Back in the apartment the ground started shaking and I thought it was just a train since the tracks run under the town but Debby was convinced it was an earthquake.  She was right, seconds later folks poured out of their homes onto the streets talking wildly.  We read in the paper the next day of a Terremoto!  My third memorable earthquake; Portland, Costa Rica and now Cinque Terre.

Mid morning we headed back to Vernazza to swim in the harbor that we had eyed yesterday.  Debby and Meghan stayed outside a snack bar and searched for apartments on the Amalfi coast while Helen and I hit the water.  Most of the harbor is sheltered and calm with crystal blue water but there are some sections that hold trash and algae.  We swam and sat in the sun with many others spread across any comfortable rock.

We snacked on fried seafood and vegetables and headed back to by water taxi to Manarola.  It was great to get a view of the land we had hiked yesterday from a different point of view.  Hit the grocery and coop for salad, meat and cheese in our apartment.

After dinner we headed to our sunset viewpoint just steps from our door just in time, looking over the harbor below and coastline to the west.  An almost full moon started rising over the town and I headed out to capture a few good pictures......Happy Solstice!
