Second full day in Florence and we have gotten the lay of the land, at least the land between our hotel and the Cathedral. The Vances 4, Conner and Jake got in line first thing to climb to the top of the Duomo. This was my second climb but have very limited memory from that trip almost 30 years ago. 460 some steps up cool, dark, narrow corridors, first to a narrow balcony inside the cathedral at the beginning of the dome and then out onto a cupola with sweeping views of Florence.
Afterward, we headed to the central market, one of my favorite places in any city. We purchased cherries and some dried fruit for our bus tour later that afternoon which took us into the Chianti region including a wine tasting at the Lornano vineyard.
We kept up the wine drinking back at our hotel and brought back pizzas from the pizzeria right across the street. Everyone except Tom & Barbara headed out to find one of the top 5 gelatarias in Florence, Carribe - it was good. I think that had been the 3rd gelato for Meghan and Helen that day, but who's counting?
