A Floating City

It was hard to get up this morning. After trying to get out of bed like 5 times Helen and I went to breakfast. Italians are just like Argentinians. They eat mainly croissants for breakfast every morning. YUM!

Our walking tour started at Plaza St. Marco and we left around 8:30. There were many things to see on the way. A huge 3 masted ship was docked right next to the city's edge. Mom said it looked like one of the ships Colombo supposedly took to the new world. The Bridge of Sighs was across from us on our right. The bridge was where prisoners crossed from the prison to the Doges palace (where the duke lived). The bridge would normally be the last sight of Venice they saw. If they were determined innocent they would be let go.

I learned that if things were very tall and very old in Venice, they would start to tilt. Since the city is floating on the water, there isn't room for any foundation. If you drilled about 10 ft down anywhere in the city, you would reach water. Since the tall things are heavy, gravity pulls them down and when they are on the side of a canal, the canal side will tilt down further. The towers almost looked like the leaning tower of Piza!

After the tour we went to get some gelato for the second time that day, then back to the hotel for some cousin fun. We played extreme spoons for forever. Starting out with regular playing, Jake got out first. He then had to hide all the other spoons so when it was time for us to play, once we had 4 of a kind we had to go find the spoons. This went on and on and on until... I WON! Yep, that's right.
