Today was the working day. We got up at seven and had a cup of yogurt and some kiwi juice that Mom and Meghan bought yesterday at the grocery store. Then we left for the train station and took the train to Corniglia, it only took two minutes to get there, and then started our walk to Monterosso. It was a three hour hike. It was actually two different hikes, but together it took three hours. It was four miles. It was so long and tiring, but the views were worth it. You could see almost the whole ocean. We took the hike where there were many olive trees. The first hike only took an hour and a half. It ended at Vernazza, so we had a lunch break. We tried the olives that we had seen on the first hike. They were very good. We walked around, window shopping, and then Meghan found a swimsuit and bought it. We went on the other hike, which was really rough, and much harder than the first one. The beggining and the end was really steep, but the middle was sort of flat.
We ended the hike at a beach in Monterosso. We rented two
umbrella's that were on the beach. We stayed there until 7:00, when it closed. I swam for about twenty minutes at first and then I took a nap in my chair. Dad gave Meghan and I money for a soda, and I got a coke. After we drank both soda's, Mom and Dad went on a walk along the shore. Meghan and I couldn't go swimming until they got back because somebody might take our stuff.
We played cards and when they got back we went swimming. I stayed in the water longer than anyone else, because it felt really good, and because my family didn't live on a beach, and we only went to one, like, twice a year, so I wanted the feeling of the ocean to linger for a little bit. When I came out, it was already time to go. We were going to Levanto to eat dinner, but when we got there, we figured out that it was big we would have to walk thirty blocks to the nearest restaurants, which was the last thing that we wanted to do after walking a four mile hike and swimming for four hours.
We took the train ride to Riomaggiore, which was the only town that we hadn't been to yet, and we ate there. The restaurant that we ate at was really good, and we got a seat outside that looked out over the water.
It was an exhausting day, but it was worth it.
